As an atheist, my approach to spirituality is unique and personal. I find profound meaning in rituals that connect me to the cycles of nature, drawing inspiration from Taoism and various pagan traditions. One of the core elements of my practice is my relationship with the moon and its phases.

The moon has always held a special place in human culture, symbolizing change, reflection, and the ebb and flow of life. In Chinese culture, the moon is also a powerful symbol, representing harmony, balance, and the cyclical nature of existence. As I studied more of my chinese culture, this helped deepen my connection to the moon, as I pay close attention to the lunar cycles, using them as a guide for my rituals and practices.

Lunar Influence in Chinese Traditions

In Chinese traditions, the full moon is particularly significant during the Mid-Autumn Festival, a time for family reunions and the celebration of harvest. This festival not only honors the moon but also emphasizes the importance of familial bonds and gratitude. Each full moon represents a time of culmination and clarity, a moment to reflect on my intentions and the energy I wish to cultivate in my life.

Rituals and Practices

By incorporating elements of Chinese culture into my lunar rituals, I find a deeper sense of connection and purpose. For instance, every year for the Mid-Autumn Festival, we enjoy mooncakes as a way to celebrate the full moon, sharing them with loved ones to honor the spirit of togetherness. Additionally, I embrace the practice of moon gazing, allowing the moon's light to inspire reflection and mindfulness. There is a sense of togetherness during this time in which I feel more connected with everything around me, both naturally and spiritually.

The moon serves as a bridge between my personal journey and enlightenment with my spirituality. This influence enhances my understanding of the lunar cycles, making each phase a meaningful opportunity for growth and introspection.

Charging Crystals Under the Full Moon

One of my favorite rituals occurs during the full moon. I prepare by gathering my collection of crystals: amethyst, aqua aura quarts, blue agate, jade, jasper, lapis lazuli, sapphire, and spessartine. These stones hold different energies and meanings, and I believe that charging them under the moonlight enhances their properties.

Amethyst - Shields you from negative energy and deepens your focus during meditation.

Aqua Aura Quarts - Helps spiritual grow and calms anxiety.

Blue Agate - Being able to speak without fear or confrontation.

Calcite - Amplifies the power of other stones and grounds your spiritual energy.

Citrine - Brings motivation, joy, and drive to chase your dreams.

Jade - Attracts wealth, prosperity, and protection from harm.

Jasper - Grounds your body and keeps your mind focused on the present. Lapis Lazuli - Opens your mind to deep wisdom and inner truth. Sapphire - Clears mental fog and guards your mind against psychic stress. Spessartine - Sparks your creativity and helps you accept new life phases.

These are but a few of the crystals that I have in my collection, and I use them on a regular basis. When I was much younger, amethyst was the stone that called to me spiritually, but as I entered adulthood, sapphire has found its way into my everyday life. It is the primary crystal I use in all of my rituals.

To perform this particular ritual, I follow these steps:

  1. Purify Water: I start by purifying water, which serves as a medium for charging my crystals. I use a charcoal based water filters to purify the water I use. I use an individual glass bottle and fill the bottle up with the purified water and rest the bottle on a flat surface where the moon rays hit.

  2. Set Up the Crystals: I place each crystal in a bowl of the purified water, allowing them to soak in the energy of the moonlight.

  3. Moonlight Charging: I set the bowl outside under the full moon, letting the light infuse the water and crystals with its energy. Before sunrise I take the crystals out, dry them, and place them back in their respective places around my home.

This simple yet powerful act feels like a communion with nature, reminding me of the interconnectedness of all things.

Using Moon Water in My Rituals

After charging my crystals, I utilize the moon water in a unique way. I take a soft towel and wet it with the moon water, using it as a tool for cleansing and renewal. This act serves multiple purposes:

  1. Physical Cleansing: The moon water symbolizes a fresh start, and using it to cleanse my space helps me let go of negative energy. I use the towel to clean all of the archways in my home, as well as all window frames. With each wash, I reinforce my gratefulness to the moon and the nature around me.

  2. Meditative Practice: As I use the towel, I take a moment to meditate on my intentions, focusing on what I wish to manifest in my life.

  3. Connection to Nature: The act of using moon water reinforces my bond with the natural world, grounding me in the present moment.

  4. Physical Connection: Incorporating moon water into my tea or using a splash to wash my hair helps me feel more in tune with the natural world.

Embracing the Spiritual Journey

While I identify as an atheist, my rituals are not about belief in a higher power but rather a celebration of life, nature, and the cycles that govern our existence. By incorporating elements from Taoism and pagan traditions, I create a practice that resonates with my values and experiences. These rituals provide a sense of peace and reflection, allowing me to connect with myself and the world around me. They remind me that spirituality can be a deeply personal journey. In embracing these practices, I find joy and peacefulness in my life.
